Exodus 5:6-9
That same day Pharaoh sent this order to the Egyptian slave drivers and the Israelite foremen: 7 “Do not supply any more straw for making bricks. Make the people get it themselves! 8 But still require them to make the same number of bricks as before. Don’t reduce the quota. They are lazy. That’s why they are crying out, ‘Let us go and offer sacrifices to our God.’ 9 Load them down with more work. Make them sweat! That will teach them to listen to lies!”
Just like the Pharaoh in Exodus 5, Satan is a "slave driver". He comes disguised as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). Once we become ensnared in his schemes, he will try his best to "load [us] down" in sin, shame, and condemnation. But God does not burden our souls. He tells us to, "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your soul" (Matthew 11:29). He lovingly reminds us to cast our burdens upon Him, and that He will take care of us (Psalm 55:22).
Satan, on the other hand, continues to point to our past and continually reminds us of our sins and mistakes. He wants to keep us in bondage, just as the Israelites were under the pharaoh's control. But God is determined to set us free! Through Christ Jesus, we don't have to be enslaved to this world, but can choose to be servants of God. We no longer have to labor and sweat in Satan's ways while he tries to deceive us into believing that God's Truth is full of "lies" (Exodus 5:9). God is Truth and He cannot lie (Titus 1:2). Just as Moses led God's people out of Egypt, Jesus will lead us beside still waters. Come beloved, and let Jesus, the Good Shepard, lead you and guide you with HIs rod and staff (Psalm 23:4). You no longer have to listen to the voice of the stranger or labor in vain (John 10:5). Your Father is calling out to you now, and asking you to come home.
Daddy God, guide us into Your presence. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. We cast our burdens on You and desire to be free from all darkness. Guide us into Your glorious light! We submit to Your will and Your ways. We love You and thank You in advance for it! In Jesus mighty name we pray, Amen!
