Proverbs 26:14 (NLT)
As a door swings back and forth on its hinges, so the lazy person turns over in bed.
When reading this verse, the initial thought that came to mind was that of the lazy person just lying in bed. There have certainly been days when I also fitted this description. Sometimes getting tired and exhausted from the events of life and finding myself relating to this person who just turns over side to side while laying in bed.
Continuing to reflect on what all was being said, the thought of the door then came to mind - swinging back and forth and moving in place, yet never really going anywhere. Both the door and the person are partially fixed to something that allowed them to move, yet kept them from moving freely. In both of these examples there was a tie that limited their movement. The door was bound to its frame with hinges and the person was bound to their bed through the mental tie of laziness. The enemy would love to keep us tied down and lying in our spiritual bed! When we are lying in our bed, we are not walking in our calling!
God created us with purpose, and placed us with precision. Job 10:10 says, "You guided my conception and formed me in the womb." It is not by chance or mistake we live in this generation, spirituality gifted for this day, and perfectly prepared to do the work in this hour.. "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10). As Children of the King, we are born of God and the evil one can not touch us. The devil has no authority to take our calling, he can only persuade us to "lay" it down.
Father,
Thank you everything you have given us. Thank you for the calling you have placed on each of our lives. Thank you for the things you prepared for us to do in advance, before there was anything to advance. Help us to walk in your strength! Help us and empower us to fight the good fight, to finish our race, and to walk in our calling. Help us not to become ensnared in the traps of the enemy. Remind us great King when we are tempted lay down, that the day is coming when we will forever rise up! We love you Lord! Amen.
