Rainbows are such a beautiful spectacle of God’s amazing creativity and forever lasting promises (Genesis 9:13). We never know when we are going to see one, but we always know where to look for them. It’s never on a bright and sunny day that I walk outside to look for a rainbow. It’s always during the storm that I am reminded of His promise. When life rains down unexpected challenges and trials, His Spirit reminds me to look to the Son. His promises, just like His rainbow, shine brightest in the area where the dark storm is confronted with the sun’s glorious light. It’s only there that His promise can be seen.
This remains true in so many areas of our lives and certainly in every storm. Life is full of unexpected trials. Jesus said, "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). This past week was a challenging one. My father is battling cancer for the third time and has surgery next week. My mother was just admitted to the hospital with multiple large growths found in her stomach. There was the loss of a family member a couple weeks before, and my grandfather was rushed to the hospital with heart problems.
While driving home and reflecting on all that was happening this week, I saw the most spectacular rainbow. I stared at its beauty and began to wonder if God changed the laws of physics to make His promise of the rainbow visible to us. Perhaps His promise was there all along and it just took the pounding of the rain and the storms of life to see it. He is faithful! His promises are true! Even in those moments when we can't physically see them, they remain constant.
Lord,
Thank You for Your promises! Thank You for Your amazing creativity! Lord, thank You for Your Son that shines the light, and that even in the darkest of life’s storms, Your promises stand true. Help us to become more like You in all that we say and in everything we do. In Jesus mighty name we pray! Amen.
