This verse always reminds me that, no matter how difficult the situation in which I may find myself, God is able to do increasingly and abundantly more than I could ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). Psalm 78:15 references part of the Israelites' journey out of Egypt and into the promised land. They were stepping out of their bondage-filled past and walking into their God-given freedom and future (Exodus 17:1-7).
Like the Isreailites in this story, as we journey through life, we may also find ourselves between a rock and a hard place. Rest assured, however, God can split the rock! The situation that once squeezed us can quickly become something that nourishes us. If we are willing to listen to God's direction and walk where He leads us, He is faithful to make a way (Isaiah 43:19)!
I once heard someone say, "If God guides you to it, He will see you through it." Having traveled through a couple of my own "deserts" in life, I can say with confidence He is a faithful Provider! His provision rarely comes in the way that I anticipate, but this is one of the many beautiful things about Him. His ways are above my ways (Isaiah 55:8-9). I don't have to understand them (Proverbs 20:24). I also don't have to worry about them, something often easier said than done. As I continue to grow in my relationship with Christ, I am reminded when areas of my life become thirsty and there is no water in sight, I must look to the Rock of Salvation! In Him there is a river which never runs dry (John 4:13-14), a river of life who turns even the harshest of wastelands into the best of growth lands (Revelation 21:5).
Father, thank you for your unfailing love! Thank you for being our Rock, our Redeemer, and our Provider! Lord, thank you for leading us to the promised land of your presence. Thank you for going before us, securing our victory, and for continually nourishing us with the river of your overflowing love! It's in your mighty name, Jesus, we pray. Amen!
