Luke 19:29-31
As he came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany on the Mount of Olives, he sent two disciples ahead. “Go into that village over there,” he told them. “As you enter it, you will see a young donkey tied there that no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks, ‘Why are you untying that colt?’ just say, ‘The Lord needs it.’” |
"As you enter... you will see" (Luke 19:30). Our natural human tendency is to want to see first, and then move accordingly. Yet, faith becomes active in exactly the opposite. Hebrews 11:1 says, "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." Jesus gave the disciples clear direction when He told them to "go." The village wasn't where they stood or where they came from; it was located past a short journey of faith, where they would eventually be. At that moment it had yet to be seen, but He assured them that what He sent them for would be there waiting and prepared for them.
It takes faith to move without seeing! To put this story in today's perspective, it would be comparable to walking miles ahead to another city, to be looking for the car that was parked at the first store on the right. It would be a brand new car that had never been driven, and the keys would be in it. When the people standing by it ask you, "What right do you have taking a car you don't own?" You should tell them, "God wants to borrow it, and I will bring it back when He's done driving it. "
They would think you had lost your mind! However, that certainly wasn't the case in this story. Great faith moves great mountains (Mark 11:23). When God gives us clear direction, He is faithful to fulfill His promise (Hebrews 10:23). Perhaps our miracle is also just a short journey of faith away.
Father, thank you for being such a faithful God. Thank you for your hand of provision that goes before us and secures our victory long before we ever get there. Help us to be mountain movers. We promise to give you all the glory, honor, and praise! In Jesus mighty name we pray. Amen.
