I once heard someone say, "confession is good for the soul, but bad for the reputation." Most of us would agree that confessing ours sins takes humility, especially, when we tell others. For many years, I confessed my sins primarily to the Lord. It is the Lord, and only the Lord, who is able to forgive and cover our sins. However, it is oftentimes through prayer and our confession "to each other" that He provides our healing.
Satan would love to deceive us and shame us into thinking that our past is too great. He is an expert at trying to convince us into believing that we are the only ones struggling with something. But, the reality is, all of us are a continual work in progress! 1 John 1:8 says, "If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth." Even Paul said, "Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have attained this" (Philippians 3:13)
Having wrestled with many sinful areas in my own life over the years, I have come to the realization that the road to healing is typically about three inches. It's the short distance between our minds and our mouths. Jesus said, "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak" (Matthew 26:41). When we begin to confess - His healing begins to start!
Father,
Thank You for Your unfailing love. Thank You for making a way through Your son, Jesus! Lord, help us and give us the strength we need to confess unto one another. We thank You in advance for Your healing that is to follow. In Jesus mighty and all powerful name we pray! Amen
