Job 14:5
A person’s days are determined; you have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed. |
My job falls into the essential work category. As I was driving to work amid the Coronavirus, I noticed the roads that once were so busy seemed nearly abandoned. The few drivers who could be seen that day appeared to be more restricted by their fear than speed limits.
While on my way to work that morning, a car drifted into my lane. Thankfully the driver noticed in time to make the needed correction and get back in their lane. For a split second, I knew I could have been killed. As I continued on my drive, I began to reflect on the potential accident. I thought about all the precautions being taken across the world to protect and save lives from the Coronavirus. How unfortunate it would be to keep your life by avoiding the virus one day only to lose it in an accident the next!
I was reminded of the Bible verse saying "my days are numbered and not can be added to or taken away (Job 14:5)." The devil can’t take our days but he will gladly steal our peace (Job 1:8-12, John 10:10). The story of Jesus talking about the seed falling on the different types of soil came to mind. It was in that moment that I remember Him saying it is “the worries of this life” that choked out the word, making it unfruitful. Rest assured, the devil is after more than our peace; He is after our God-given purpose!
Psalm 86:4 says, “Give me happiness, O Lord, for I give myself to you.”
Today we can trade our overwhelming worry for His overcoming Peace! When we surrender what we have, He is faithful to give us what we need.
Father, thank you for being Peace in the middle of the greatest storms! Thank you for your Word which is never shaken, never changing, and always true. Help us to receive it, believe it, and speak it. It’s in the mighty name of Jesus we pray! Amen.
