Life can be such a challenging place to live sometimes when we are surrounded by very difficult circumstances and people. The Lord desires for us to grow in His abundant grace, mercies, and goodness but rest assured, there is an enemy who is desperately trying to stop our growth. As we continue to grow in the Lord, we should expect opposition. This passage says it was "when the crop began to grow and pruduce" that "the weeds also grew" (Matthew 13:26).
The workers literally woke up one morning (they were sleeping at night) to find weeds in the garden of their life. What are the weeds that Jesus is referring to in this parable? Well, in Matthew 13:38 Jesus says, "The weeds are the people who belong to the evil one." The enemy not only tries to sow challenging situations into our lives but he also sows challening people into our lives. Often times our natural tendency is to want to "pull out the weeds" (Matthew 13:28). But Jesus (the Farmer) tells His servants, "No, you'll uproot the wheat if you do. Let both grow together until the harvest." (Matthew 13:29-30). In John Chapter 17 Jesus prayed for us saying:
"My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world" (John 17:15-18 NLT).
We live in the world but we are not of this world! God's purpose will prevail and HIs Word will complete the good work that He started in each of us. Let us reach out to our fellow "wheat", grab their hands and interlock our roots in agreement. Together in Christ and through the power of His Spirit that resides within us, there will be an abundant harvest! "Then the world will know" the Father and HIs love for all of us! (John 17:.23).
Father,
Thank You for calling us out of the darkness and bringing all things into Your loving Light! We thank you for the opportunity to be a part of Your glorious harvest. Help us to grow in Your ways and flourish in Your Son! May all the world see and know of Your radiant love! Fertilize our soil and bless our roots, that we may rise above all things that may try to hinder. In Jesus mighty name we pray! Amen.
