John 21:3 (NLT)
Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” “We’ll come, too,” they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night. John 21:5-6 (NLT) 5 He called out, “Fellows, have you caught any fish?” “No,” they replied. 6 Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it. |
Being in tune to the voice of Jesus can turn an empty boat into a plentiful harvest. Simon and friends had been fishing all night and ended up empty handed. After a long night of fishing, they were probably tired and ready to throw in the towel. The thought of hearing Jesus give them pointers on fishing probably wasn't at the forefront of their minds. However, when He speaks, regardless of the situation or circumstance, our willingness to be obedient and follow His direction is what changes our provision. The transition of obedience even in something as small as casting the net a few feet away is what fills the boat. When God moves on our behalf, His provision far surpasses our human capability.
Jesus,
Thank you for taking the time to speak to us even in the moments when we least expect it. Thank you for the plentiful harvest you provide when we walk in obedience to Your voice. Thank you for continually providing for our needs and overcoming even our greatest disappointments. We love you Lord! Amen.
